The Pacers big man will not be playing in Tokyo which isn’t a bad thing for the Pacers.

Domantas Sabonis was no doubt upset about his Lithuanian national team coming up short in their bid to play in the Tokyo Olympics later this summer. Slovenia, led by Luka Doncic rolled past Lithuania 96-85 as Doncic asserted his will as the best player on the floor to earn the win in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Of course, it doesn’t take long to find a silver lining for Pacers fans considering Sabonis went from a demanding NBA season straight to international play. Time off. Rest. Recovery. These are all good things and certainly something Sabonis earned after the heavy minutes he delivered over the compact NBA season.

Even if you are riding in the ‘let’s trade Sabonis’ camp, a healthy and rested Sabonis is a more valuable Sabonis.

As for the game, Sabonis finished with nine points and six rebounds while Luke locked down MVP honors with a 31-point, 11-rebound and 13-assist triple-double. To make matters worse for Domas, his father, Arvydas gave Luka the MVP award.
