After getting knocked around by the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, the Pacers are back in action tonight against the Nets, looking to avoid a regular season sweep after dropping the most recent meeting, 124-117, with James Harden notching a 40-point triple double.
This go around, Indiana will catch a break with both both Harden and Irving sidelined, but Kevin Durant is expected to be in uniform after missing the prior two meetings — which should make for quite the challenge for Oshae Brissett’s quick feet and recovery skills. In Durant’s first two games back since returning from a thigh contusion, he put up 33 points against six rebounds against Phoenix and then tallied 17 and 10 versus the Raptors.
In the prior meeting, Brooklyn downsized and switched over the final frame, with Harden alternating between running inverse pick-and-rolls with Jeff Green at small-ball five and hunting mismatches against Doug McDermott and T.J. McConnell. Without Harden, look for Durant to act similarly against Indiana’s small-ball lineups, as the Pacers remain down by Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb, and Goga Bitadze, with Malcolm Brogdon and Caris LeVert attacking from the outside.
