If all goes according to plan once the season starts, these two teams will be battling for a playoff spots in the East. The Knicks turned things around last season under coach Tom Thibodeau, using one of the top defenses in the league to finish ten games over .500 and in fourth place in the East before getting bounced from the playoffs in the first round by the equally surprising Hawks.
Kemba Walker joined the Knicks in the offseason to go along with Julius Randle and RJ Barrett who were key cogs last season. The Knicks are also pretty healthy to begin the season with just Mitchell Robinson currently on the injury list.
The Pacers faded last season as the Knicks were rising and hope that their new addition - Coach Rick Carlisle - can have a big impact to make them a contender in the East. Injuries remain an issue, with TJ Warren and Caris LeVert sidelined for the practice opener. Assuming the rest of the starters play, we will get a look at the initial gains the Pacers hope to make at both ends of the floor under Carlisle.
