The Pacers and Cavaliers tip off a two-game preseason set in Cleveland on Saturday night at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse which they will conclude with game two on Monday night.
The pandemic preseason plan will allow the Pacers to play while maintaining limited access to the non-tested world. The games will also allow the Pacers to try out all of their new toys, or in this case their new offensive and defensive system, on an actual NBA opponent.
Coach Nate Bjorkgren has implemented changes to speed up the pace of play and be more disruptive on the defensive end. His focus in practice and going into this game is to make sure the team is solid on the defensive end first and foremost.
Without T.J. Warren (foot), Justin Holiday is expected to start but Bjorkgren is also eager to see a variety of lineups throughout the game. Of course, that includes the double-big pairing of Domas Sabonis and Myles Turner who will find a strong challenge out of the gate against Kevin Love and Andre Drummond. In particular, Drummond has had his way with the Pacers bigs of late, posting big double-doubles in recent matchups whether with the Cavs or Pistons.
But those concerns are better held for the regular season. Tonight it is about the Pacers rolling into a new era and giving us a first glimpse at what a Bjorkgren guided team might look like this year.
