While the Pacers Media Day let the collective peronality of the team shine through, there was some news regarding the contract status for a few players.
The Pacers plan to pick up the fourth-year option for Domantas Sabonis along with T. J. Leaf’s third-year option on their respective rookie deals for next season soon, as reported by J. Michael. For Sabonis, that means he will make a bit more than $3.5 million while Leaf will make around $2.8 million for the 2019-20 season. Having a rotation contributor on a rookie deal like Sabonis is a major bonus. Hopefully, Leaf can turn his salary into a bargain by next season, as well.
As for bigger investment considerations for the Pacers, an extension for Myles Turner or Thad Young is not expected before the season tips, nor any time soon, according to J. Michael’s report. With five other players also looking at free agency at the end of the season, the Pacers have plenty of flexibility and cap space looming, so there is no rush to commit big cash before seeing how these players produce.
Also, the Reggie Miller mural is starting to come into view, although the rain yesterday kept artist Pamela Bliss on the ground. Regardless, I decided to check in on the progress and share a pic. Bliss is in the second week of a project she expected to take four to six weeks, pending the weather.
