The popular former Pacers guard bid a fond farewell to Indiana after signing with the Lakers.

Lance Stephenson signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers shortly after LeBron James signed with the Lakers for more than ten times that much.

Lance in L.A.? As the hype man for LeBron? Wow.

The idea of Lance as a hoops Flava Flav to LeBron’s Chuck D for the Lakers had me chuckling for several minutes when I first read the news. The entertainment potential is endless and some of it may even happen on the court.

After the Pacers declined Stephenson’s $4.3 million option for the upcoming season, Lance’s future in the league appeared shaky. But not only did Lance land on his feet, he will make a few more bucks than the option the Pacers declined. Scott Agness reports that the Pacers made an offer to Stephenson on Sunday, but he decided to ride with LeBron in L.A.

According to Dan Dakich (segment link here at 0:55 mark), Stephenson’s reps came back to the Pacers asking the team to double the offer from the Lakers. I’m assuming that means going for a two-year, $9 million as opposed to a one-year, $9 million deal but regardless, considering the Pacers already declined to pay $4.3 million, they certainly weren’t going to give Lance more money.

So Lance in LA LA Land is going to happen and it should be glorious. While he’s headed to the big market in SoCal, Lance made sure to show his appreciation for his adopted home in Indiana where fans will always welcome him with open arms.
