2018 NBA Draft: Pacers draft game thread

New, comments

The Pacers begin the night with picks No. 23 and No. 50. Now what?

NBA: Draft Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Last season the Pacers selected T.J. Leaf with the hopes he can grow into a productive stretch four. Leaf certainly showed the offensive proficiency to play in the league, now he has to do that growing part to gain strength and improve his play on the defensive end.

Thus is the life of drafting players in the back half of the first round. Tonight the Pacers select No. 23 in the first round. There’s no doubt the player selected with have questions surrounding his overall game, not to mention the most important unknown — when will he be able to help on the court?

The No. 50 pick is flyer land but hopefully the Pacers can at least take a chance on a guy with 3 and D potential. That is, if they use the pick at all.

There was no league buzz surrounding the Pacers during the day which was spent digesting Dwight Howard getting traded once again, followed up by reports the Nets will buy out his contract. Yawn.

As always, share you thoughts and observations in the comments. Who do you like at No. 23? How about No. 50? Which lottery players nailed their suit?

With Woj at ESPN and no longer tweeting picks well in advance of Adam Silver announcing the pick, take caution with the early reports on Twitter. Apparently, Turner and Yahoo! Sports will also keep early pick reports of social media.

The draft tips off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
