Oladipo will try to defend the dunk title currently held by teammate Glenn Robinson III who is still recovering from ankle surgery in October. Keeping the title at the Fieldhouse won’t be easy against a field that includes Aaron Gordon (Magic), Larry Nance Jr. (Lakers) and rookie Dennis Smith Jr. (Mavericks).
I hate to arrive at the All-Star party with a bag full of buzzkill and paranoia, but let’s all hope none of the risks facing Oladipo will be realized for adding more to his plate over the All-Star break. Considering Vic missed four games at the end of December due to a sore right knee, there has to be some concern that adding another event that relies heavily on that knee not come back to bite him or the team.
Fortunately, the Pacers training staff is among the best in the league and Oladipo is sharp enough to know his body and not take anything in this showcase past feathery.
Here’s what Vic had to say about the dunk contest on Thursday.
