A Woj Bomb involving the Pacers is always entertaining, let alone on a Monday morning. But this time, the breaking news had historical significance for the NBA team.
According to Woj, the Pacers moved Kelly Krauskopf into a role as an assistant General Manager
making her the NBA’s first female hired in that front office role. As Kevin Pritchard reminded everyone, the Pacers had the first female assistant GM in the mid-70’s when Nancy Leonard assumed the role and handling most of the details as the Pacers transitioned from the ABA to NBA. Read about it in Mark Montieth’s profile on Nancy Leonard for Pacers.com.
Krauskopf will work alongside president Kevin Pritchard, GM Chad Buchanan and Sr. VP Peter Dinwiddie to help guide basketball operations for the Pacers.
Krauskopf has done impressive work as a long-time exec with Pacers Sports and Entertainment, mostly in the role as president and GM for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. Her work with the Fever revealed how adept she is at putting together teams that can compete for championships with three trips to the Finals and a WNBA championship in 2012.
On Sunday night, the Pacers won their seventh game in a row on the court. On Monday morning, they added another W off the court.
UPDATE: Pacers make official announcement of hiring.
