The Pacers look for their third consecutive road win on Wednesday night when they visit the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Considering the Knicks are short-handed, the Halloween matchup doesn’t appear too scary for the Pacers on paper. Of course, the same thing could’ve been said last season in the first matchup between the teams in early November. But a heavy does of Kristaps Porzingis (40 points) and a monster effort off the bench by then rookie, Frankie Ntilikina and the Pacers were run out of the gym in the fourth quarter.
This time around, the Knicks will not have Porzingis (knee) to lean on, nor veteran guard and Pike High legend, Courtney Lee (neck spasms). Still, the Knicks are coming off of their best game of the season after beating the Nets for their second win.
New head coach, David Fizdale is going with a youth movement since the Knicks have little incentive for winning too frequently this year while they wait out the injury to Porzingis and the ability to add free agents over the summer. Tim Hardaway Jr. is leading the way, averaging more than 24 points per game. Former IU big man, Noah Vonleh has been part of the playing rotation, earning a starting nod in the past two games.
The Pacers appear to have a clean injury report as they try to improve their level of play after a home loss on Monday. The reserve unit has been inconsistent and an issue in the team’s last two losses.
