The Pacers face the Memphis Grizzlies at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday night to tip off the NBA season for both teams.
After a four-game, eight-day road trip during preseason, the Pacers will make their debut in front of the home crowd for the first game that counts. Victor Oladipo will make the Pacers go but the plan is to have a better supporting cast around their sole All-Star. Tyreke Evans and Doug McDermott hope to deliver more firepower to the reserve unit, while Nate McMillan implores everyone to improve their effort on the glass.
The Pacers started last season as a strong offensive team but finished better on the defensive end than the offensive end. This year they are looking to balance that effort out, maintaining a strong team defensive disposition while not relying on Oladipo alone to make the O go.
Memphis has a strong starting unit anchored around vets, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol. After losing Evans, they will look to young players like Dillon Brooks and Jaren Jackson Jr. to fortify the second unit.
