The Pacers got all kinds of buckets on Saturday night in Orlando, beating the Magic 127-112 for their third straight win. By Sunday evening, the Pacers were in seventh place in the East but scenarios remain in play which could have Blue and Gold finishing anywhere from ninth place to ninth and out of the playoffs.
All of the contenders have two games remaining over the next three days to wrap up the regular season. The Hawks and Heat in particular have come up with unlikely wins, including ATL beating the Cavs twice in recent days, which have kept the Pacers from solidifying a move up or down the standings, let alone clinching post-season play.
If the Pacers beat the Sixers on Monday and Hawks on Wednesday they clinch regardless of any other outcome.
BUT...here are the scenarios for seeding and/or missing the playoffs.
No. 5 seed - Pacers win out (Philly, Atlanta), Hawks go 0-2 (Charlotte, Indiana) and Bucks go 0-2 (Charlotte, Boston)
No. 6 seed - Pacers win out, Hawks go 0-2 and Bucks go 1-1 or 2-0
No. 7 seed - Pacers win out
No. 7 seed - Pacers go 1-1, Bulls go 1-1 (Orlando, Brooklyn), Heat go 1-1 (Cleveland, Washington)
No. 7 seed - Pacers go 0-2, Bulls go 0-2, Heat go 0-2
No. 8 seed - Pacers go 1-1, Bulls go 2-0, Heat go 1-1 or 0-2 OR Bulls go 1-1 or 0-2 and Heat go 2-0
No. 9 OUT OF PLAYOFFS - Pacers go 1-1 or 0-2 and Bulls go 2-0 and Heat go 2-0
So the Pacers can eliminate the stress by winning out but there will be plenty of scoreboard watching beginning tonight. Key games on Monday include:
- Pacers @ 76ers - 7 p.m. ET
- Cavaliers @ Heat - 7:30 p.m. ET
- Magic @ Bulls - 8 p.m. ET
- Hornets @ Bucks - 8 p.m. ET
