The Pacers are 2-1 in their last three road games, beating Houston and Atlanta and losing to San Antonio in three games that remained up for grabs in the final minute of regulation. In all three games, the Pacers stiffened on the defensive end late and made a strong close for the win.
Against Houston, the Pacers weathered a late 10-2 run by the Rockets to close out Houston with a 7-0 run in the final minute thanks to three defensive stops and some quality free throw shooting by Jeff Teague.
Against the Spurs, the Pacers had to rally from behind late, holding the Spurs scoreless over the final three minutes until Kawhi Leonard went to the Texas four-step to create room for what would be the game-winner.
In Atlanta on Sunday, the Pacers closed out the final 1:43 with a 7-0 run. Jeff Teague and Glenn Robinson III made big buckets during that run, along with a fantastic offensive rebound and putback by C.J. Miles, but it was the defense of Teague and Robinson which created the two stops the Pacers needed to finish the comeback. This was a big topic on the latest Locked on Pacers episode.
After the game in Atlanta, Robinson spoke about the team sticking together for the whole game, speaking of a level of teamwork that has been evident on the defensive end as the Pacers have toughened up on the road of late.
Nate McMillan spoke of the basketball gods rewarding the team for sticking together and battling through adversity they faced in San Antonio and then again, in Atlanta.
Now we'll see what they bring on a back-to-back in Charlotte where they will have to deny the natural inclination to exhale. The basketball gods would not appreciate that after what the Pacers have shown in their last three games.
