The Pacers return from the All-Star break to face the Memphis Grizzlies at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday. The team will wear the Hickory Pacers uniforms as the mid-80’s Marion Giants are celebrated.
The timing is perfect with Zach Randolph in town with the Grizz. Even though it only seems like he played on those talented Marion teams, Z-Bo did lead the Giants to a state championship in 1998, absolutely dominating Jared Jeffries and a young Sean May in the title game. Memphis point guard Mike Conley knows about state titles at the Fieldhouse, as well as he teamed up with Greg Oden to win three in a row.
Wow, this is a veteran Memphis team since all of those state titles seem so long ago. The Indiana duo teaming with Marc Gasol can make the Grizzlies play a more traditional style which works well when they are all healthy. The team added Chandler Parsons to try to play smaller and stretch the floor, but they seem to be better with the big lineup but regardless of how they play, the Grizz are having success with a 34-24 record.
The Pacers bring everyone back after the break and trade deadline have passed. Thad Young is probable, still dealing with a bad left wrist which could impact his shot, but having Young back will help settle the playing rotation regardless.
But all eyes will be on Paul George as he tries to ramp up his level of play after a contentious trade deadline. Taking care of business at home is critical for the Pacers with their next five games on the road.
