Yes, the Pacers took a lead into the fourth quarter and let a potential W slip away for the second time in a row to close out the preseason with a loss in Milwaukee. Yes, the Pacers lost three of their last four preseason games with defense and rebounding harming the cause.
But at least the poor finish in preseason and breakdowns in key areas of the game have the team’s attention. No concerns about a false sense of security masking issues as they prepare for the regular season to begin on Wednesday.
Nate McMillan and Paul George are charged with leading this new-look roster trying to alter their style of play and they are not giving points for trying. Both are pointing out issues both privately and publicly which was easy to do after the frustrating finish to the preseason.
In the case of PG, this is a marked step forward in his effort to become a stronger leader on and off the court. And that is far more valuable than a couple of preseason wins will ever be.
