With the regular season coming into view, the Pacers cut their preseason roster down to 17 on Monday by waiving forward Alex Poythress and guard Nick Zeisloft.
Both players were camp invites who saw little game action in the first five preseason games. Poythress played seven minutes over two appearances, hoisting up a three-pointer as his only shot. He did make a couple of trips to the free throw line where he made one of four freebies for his only point scored.
Zeisloft, a noted sharp-shooter from IU, didn’t score and only played one minute but literally took his shot with the big club, firing up a three-pointer during his brief time on the court.
Both players expect to keep the hoop journey going up in Fort Wayne with the Mad Ants.
Julyan Stone is the third camp invitee expected to join Poythress and Zeisloft in Fort Wayne, but he remains on the roster. Stone has played in four preseason games and looked solid as a reserve wing player finding minutes with C.J. Miles missing nearly all of the preseason action.
As for the 16th player released, my money remains on Jeremy Evans.
