The Pacers tip off 2016 at the Fieldhouse on Saturday night when they host the Detroit Pistons.
The two teams split their first two meetings, both at The Palace, with the Pistons thumping the Paces 118-96 in their last meeting on Dec. 12. The Pacers played like it was the second game of a back-to-back on the road - which it was - and to make matters worse couldn't shoot, making just 3 of 16 three pointers.
But stopping the Pistons was the problem in that game as the Pacers gave up 74 points over the second and third quarters which left them dead and buried before winning time even started. The Pistons survived a rough November and are in the muddled mix of the Eastern Conference playoff contenders. A road win on Saturday would vault them past the Pacers and into the top eight teams in the East.
Of course, that would push the Pacers losing streak to three games and begin the new year on a sour note. The New Year's Eve loss to Milwaukee was Indiana's first home loss to an Eastern Conference team which is a trend that needs to stop at one. With a day off to work and a roster that should be healthier, the Pacers have not excuse for not throwing an elite effort at the Pistons.
