Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel was named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for February.
Vogel earned the honor after leading the Pacers to the Eastern Conference's best record in February at 7-2 (.778). The Pacers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers twice and Golden State Warriors once as Vogel's overall win total put him on the top for NBA wins as a Pacers coach. The Pacers shot 47.2 percent from the field to lead the NBA in February, and also held opponents under 100 points in six-of-nine contests.
A healthy roster certainly helped improve Vogel's coaching ability as the full-time return of George Hill along with Ian Mahinmi, allowed Vogel to adjust his playing rotation and get the most out of Rodney Stuckey in a reserve role.
"Coach of the Month is always a team award," said Vogel. "It's indicative of team success. It's nice recognition for our players who didn't quit through a lot of adversity. We still have a lot of work to do, but I'm looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish."
Oklahoma City Thunder's Scott Brooks today was named the NBA Western Conference Coach of the Month. Vogel beat out Boston's Brad Stevens and Cleveland's David Blatt for the Eastern Conference nod.
