The Pacers were all in last year which puts them in a bit of a bind heading into the 2014-15 season considering the big gamble didn't pay off with a trip to the NBA Finals and a championship. After trading their top pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft for Luis Scola and otherwise tying up their salary cap room to maintain the status quo by signing Lance Stephenson, any significant moves by the Pacers on draft night and/or during the free agent season will be a surprise.
But...it has been pretty quiet around the Fieldhouse to the point of the minimal second-round player workout being downplayed. Base on history, that could well mean the Pacers enjoyed what they saw from a couple of those late-round prospects. Maybe Russ Smith as a reserve point guard?
Plus, with the Miami Heat in a bit of turmoil after LeBron James opted out, the Pacers don't have much incentive to alter their approach drastically. The one team in their way in the East has changed for good. Still, changes in the East will require the Pacers continue to improve, but maintaining the starting lineup remains a logical approach.
So what do you hope to see or in some cases, not see from the Pacers on NBA Draft night?
