Pacers Links: Pacers can't complete comeback against Bulls

The Pacers startling comeback turned frustrating after they took the lead but failed to hold on down the stretch.

After trailing by 21 points late in the third quarter, it sounds absurd to suggest the Pacers blew a golden opportunity to beat the Bulls on Monday night.

But they really did.

Luis Scola put the Pacers up 86-83 with six minutes left in the game and from there the Pacers let several opportunities, or more specifically possessions, slip away which could have fortified a remarkable win. But instead we are left with this list of shoulda, coulda, woulda to digest with the bitter taste of a home L.

- Five turnovers with Chris Copeland accounting for three miscues after making a huge impact in the comeback by working over Jimmy Butler in the post. Credit the Bulls for some strong defense down the stretch which led to some poor shots by the Pacers, but a few of these turnovers were straight amateur hour in an effort to do too much when the score and time was in the Pacers' favor.

- The Pacers were 1-5 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. The Bulls were 6-6, including two crucial makes by Joakim Noah. The Bulls were +16 from the free throw line for the game.

- Copeland also helped off his man, Butler by about 12 feet which set up an open look for the Bulls' budding star to drain what would be the game-winning three.

- Referee vapor lock after Scola's final rebound with two seconds robbed the Pacers of at least a second for their final play. A look at the replay reveals Frank Vogel and at least five players on the bench screaming for a timeout around the 1.8 second mark. This doesn't seem unusual and normally results in a look at the replay to set a fair clock. There was no replay, no review and thus, not enough time for C.J. Watson to shoot for the win from the corner. Ugh city.
