The Pacers found out they can't show up and show well after getting beat to the punch by the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. The Nuggets were a desperate team that played like it and with a guy like Kenneth Faried setting the effort tone, the Pacers were left behind in a hurry.
Now the Pacers face a Bulls team that seems to always bring a strong effort with extra-effort type players like Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler ready to pounce on any weak play. The Pacers put that type of effort on display down in Miami and showed how well they are capable of playing, but it can't be a once-a-week thing. There is no cruise control among the options on this 2014-15 model of the Pacers.
Also, C.J. Miles missed a couple of shots before leaving the floor with some sort of calf strain. Add him back to the list of key injuries for the Pacers which may create another 10-day opening for A.J. Price to remain with the Pacers. If Miles, Rodney Stuckey or David West remain out another week, there is room for Price after the Pacers reup their hardship case.
