Indiana Pacers fans can now tentatively breathe a sigh of relief. David West, who went down with a sprained ankle in Saturday's preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks, says he expects to be healthy in time for the season opening game October 29th. He will however be out for the remainder of the preseason.

Coach Frank Vogel does not seem so sure. Vogel said he hopes to have West back in time for the opener, but did not make any guarantees.

The Pacers will obviously rely on West heavily this season, but rushing him back before he is ready would not be helpful. Preseason reps for West are not as important as they would be a younger player working on developing their game. With a veteran like him what you see is what you get. The Pacers will return to preseason action, without West, Tuesday night on the road against Minnesota.
Update:
Rodney Stuckey is also out for the rest of the preseason with a sprained right foot.
