Argentina loses in semifinal at FIBA Americas but qualifies for FIBA World Cup

Pacers forward Luis Scola will be primed and ready for training camp after a strong showing in the FIBA Americas tournament for the Argentina national team.

The Argentine team will finish up play on Wednesday in the consolation game against the Dominical Republic after coming up short to Mexico, 76-70 in the semifinal round. Scola led Argentina with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the loss but it wasn't enough to counter Atlanta's Gustavo Ayon who paced Mexico with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

While the loss in the semis was certainly disappointing for Argentina, the key to the tournament was qualifying for the 2014 FIBA World Cup which they accomplished on Sunday by beating Canada to reach the semis. Argentina beat Canada, 73-67 with Scola carrying his team with 28 points and seven rebounds. He even knocked down a couple of three-balls.

Mexico will face Puerto Rico in the FIBA Americas final on Wednesday, a fitting way to end since the two teams have been the class of the tournament thus far.
