Pacers 23rd Pick Tournament Quarterfinals: Dennis Schroeder vs. Trade Pick for Young Veteran

This by far is the best matchup of the tournament. We have two top seeds squaring off in the quarterfinals. German point guard, Dennis Schroeder faces off against trading the pick for a young veteran. Who will win this colossal battle and move on to the semifinals?

A matchup like this one is a finals-like battle for a chance to move on in the tournament. Dennis Schroeder's stock has been slipping as of late, due to poor workouts. He is now expected to go in the late teens to early 20's on Thursday night. Schroeder would fill a massive need at backup point guard next season. Meanwhile, trading the pick for a young veteran will not work with just the pick thrown in, but add in Gerald Green and it works. Teams like Houston, Cleveland, and Golden State are a few of the teams trying to acquire late first round picks on Thursday.

Below is the prospect breakdown on Schroeder from ESPN's Chad Ford and SB Nation partner, Draft Express. If you want to learn more about Schroeder, pay attention to the details provided.

Dennis Schroeder

Positives
  • Super quick guard
  • Great speed in the open court
  • Huge wingspan for a PG
  • Excellent ball handler
  • Lethal penetrator
  • Aggressive attacking the basket
  • Solid passer off penetration
Negatives
  • Needs to add strength
  • Basketball IQ could use improvement
  • More of a scoring than passing PG

Now, we get to the scenario if trading the pick for a young veteran. After looking over all 29 other NBA teams, the Minnesota Timberwolves seem like the most logical fit for both sides. There have been rumors floating around about Minnesota wanting to trade Derrick Williams, J.J. Barea, and Luke Ridnour before the draft on Thursday.

Either of these three players could be had for the 23rd pick and adding in a salary cap filler like Green, it sounds like. Would you trade the pick for any of these players? It makes sense to do it, on paper. The Pacers would get either a young forward to play behind Paul George and David West (Williams), or a veteran point guard who is a upgrade over D.J. Augustin (Barea or Ridnour).

The team Indiana possibly trades with does not have to be Minnesota, but after looking at the tradable players on the block, the Timberwolves make the most sense. Any of these players likely could be had, so it depends on your personal choice who you would want out of those three. Also Gerald Green would be traded, a celebratory move for most Pacers' fans. Even trading with another team for another young veteran is also in the cards, but as mentioned, Minnesota makes the most sense right now.

After the analysis on Schroeder (ESPN and Draft Express) and my quick little blurb on the possibility of trading the pick for a young veteran, who should advance on to the semifinals? Will it be Dennis Schroeder or Trade Out for Young Veteran receiving your vote to move on in the Indy Cornrows 23rd Pick Tournament?
