Pacers vs. Heat Links: Pacers forced to execute to even series with Heat

New, comments

The Pacers face a critical Game 4 matchup with Heat as they try to even the Eastern Conference finals at home.

Andy Lyons

The Indiana Pacers suddenly have their backs against the wall, trailing in a series for the first time this post-season heading into Game 4 at home against the Miami Heat.

The Heat muted the Fieldhouse faithful with a ridiculous offensive outburst in the first half of Game 3. LeBron and friends made themselves feel right at home and the comfort level spread throughout the Heat roster as shots were dropping from unlikely sources.

That's not how the Pacers defense normally operates. Keeping opponents uncomfortable and taking shot the Pacers want them to take is what fortified the league's best defense. Certainly not an easy task with the league's best player on the other side but somehow the Pacers have to muck things up and come the rude and nasty hosts they need to be to give themselves a chance to take Game 4 and head back to Miami with an even series.

While the Pacers have to play with a certain level of desperation they have to avoid the temptation to take desperate measures and drastically change what they do well. Now if LeBron gets loose early, then yeah, throw a variety of defensive looks at him. As he adjusts, change it up. But the Pacers should be comfortable playing at home, they just have to rise to the challenge and execute under pressure. Simple, right?
