The Indiana Pacers were able to impose their will on the Atlanta Hawks, especially in the second half, as they were able to grab a 17-point victory in Game 1. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead, but once the Pacers took the lead, they didn't relinquish it. George Hill was big in the first quarter, scoring 13 as all five starters reached double figures. The Pacers allowed 30 first half points in the paint, but tightened up their interior defense, holding Atlanta to eight.

Indiana lived at the free throw line, getting 34 attempts, hitting 30, while Atlanta was just 7-14. Paul George led the Pacers at 17-18, tying a Pacers NBA playoff record for most free throws in a game. George finished the night with his first playoff triple-double of 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, notching a steal and a block. George Hill had 18 and Roy Hibbert had 16 to help the Pacers to the win. Jeff Teague had a team high 21 for Atlanta.
