The Indiana Paces face the Miami Heat on Tuesday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse but news from shootaround shifted the focus to Friday night. Danny Granger was seen going through additional workouts as he tries to get his wind in game shape.
Could he play against the Heat tonight? Probably.
But Granger is walking in lock-step with this team, understands his role upon return and certainly doesn't want to mess up anything with the 18-3 start and the Heat in town. As Scott Agness reports, Granger will instead look ahead to the Bobcats on Friday night as his goal for a return to the court.
"This game is just too important," he said. "As much as I hate to miss it, I wouldn't play not having played yet this season."
I honestly can't tell you how often I've heard from fans, friends and other media types wondering if Granger would be willing to accept a reduced role and focus on what the team needs as opposed to what Granger needs for another contract.
Read the whole Agness story and judge for yourself. As I've said repeatedly, Granger knows the score. He's endured tough times as "the man" in Indy. You don't think he just wants a piece of this current run? Yes he does. The guy has been much more present than he was last year. He is already integrated into the team and what they are doing.
Oh...and he can help.
