The Pacers beat the Nets to move to 7-0 and now everyone is starting to believe there is something different about this team that will make them a beast to contend with all season.
The players have backed up all of their talk about focusing on each game and playing for a top seed in the East by, well, focusing on each game and thrusting out ahead of the pack in the Eastern Conference. After Jeff Green splashed an improbable 3-ball to beat the Miami Heat on South Beach last night. The Pacers flew back to Indiana with a three game lead over the second place Heat and Philadelphia 76ers.
Yeah, I know, long season and it's early.
But just when are the Pacers going to kick back, relax and dump a few games. Just doesn't seem to be in their makeup this year. Surely, adversity will strike at some point during the year, but save for a devastating injury or two, I can't imagine anything happening that would shake the foundation of this group for too long.
So now everyone around the NBA is paying attention, looking for cracks in the solid foundation and measuring the legitimacy of this strong start by the Pacers. The consensus appears to be: It is real and it is spectacular.
