The Indiana Pacers visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday afternoon to tip off MLK Day hoops on ESPN as well as begin a four-game road trip against four solid Western Conference teams. From Memphis, the Pacers go to Portland then Utah and finally Denver before returning to the Fieldhouse to play Detroit in the middle of next week.
The Pacers played the Grizz in another rare afternoon game on New Year's Eve day when they tipped off at 3 p.m. The Pacers closed like champs in that game to earn a nice win to end the calendar year while the Grizz came apart at the seams (well, at least Tony Allen did) when the game tightened up at winning time.
Since then Memphis has gone 7-4 while playing through the haze of constant trade rumors involving not just Rudy Gay but Zach Randolph, as well. Memphis will have all of their talent present and accounted for against the Pacers which makes for a tough matchup. But with the way the Pacers have played at home and against lesser teams, tough, challenging road games are where the intrigue lies with this team. Gotta figure out how to consistently compete on the road. No better time than the present.
