The Indiana Pacers have worked their way up to third place in the Eastern Conference standings in large part due to a deep team with strong chemistry willing to sacrifice minutes or shots on any night to earn a team win.
You know which team doesn't have good chemistry right now? Orlando.
The Pacers just passed the Magic in the standings and now it appears that Orlando is broken down on the side of the road. Andrew Sharp breaks down the breakdown in Orlando today when Stan Van Gundy spit the truth and exposed Dwight Howard as not all muscles and smiles.
In his thorough account of the situation, Adrian Wojnarowski mentions that the team is hardly united behind Howard's efforts to send Van Gundy packing. The Magic have dealt quite well with the Howard trade chaos all year but this will be tough to deal with as was apparent when the Knicks thumped the Magic on Thursday night.
Apparently they are going to try to keep things together until the end of the season but this should help the Pacers maintain the third spot in the East. In fact, with Atlanta ready and willing to move up, the Magic or 76ers may now end up being a first round opponent for the Pacers if they can hang onto that third seed.
But with the volatile situation in Orlando it remains a great drama to continue to watch. The court may become the team's refuge but after watching that media session with Van Gundy and Howard I don't see how they can overcome the damage from today and remain a threat in the East.
