Peyton Manning buys stake in Memphis Grizzlies

Manning and his wife join NBA ownership group with Justin Timberlake and Penny Hardaway.

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Indianapolis Colts legend and current Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is reportedly now a part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA.

This news was a bit surprising considering it comes in the middle of the NFL season while Manning is prepping to take on his old nemesis, the New England Patriots on Sunday. For his part, Manning dismissed the news as worthy of comment, pawning it off as a side project for his wife Ashley.

That makes even more sense considering Manning is also a legend in Tennessee from his college days and his wife is a native of Memphis. Ashley must be on smart lady. No doubt she caught Peyton fully distracted while knee deep in game film and dropped a little, "Hey, honey, do you mind if we buy into the Memphis Grizzlies."

As a typical husband, hearing the words but not actually listening, Peyton probably said, "Sure, hon, whatever you need."

I must say, when I first heard this news I daydreamed for an instant about future Pacers ownership situation in which Larry Bird and Peyton Manning join forces with the Simons.
