The Indiana Pacers were quite excited to bring local hoops legend George Hill back home through a trade on draft night. Apparently, the feelings weren't mutual.
Mike Monroe reports that Hill was down after learning he'd be leaving his buddy DeJuan Blair and a San Antonio Spurs team he loved.
The fact Hill was traded to the team that plays in his hometown was no consolation. One of the most affable of Spurs was not up to speaking to the reporters he always accommodated, win or lose, hero or goat.
"He is real emotional right now," said his agent, Michael Whitacre.
Trading Hill wasn't easy for Gregg Popovich and Buford, either. The GM called Thursday "one of the most difficult nights in Spurs history since we've been here."
Seems like a pretty natural reaction when people you trust and respect tell you they don't want to spend the money to keep you and are letting you go. Fact is, the Spurs decided they wouldn't have the money to sign Hill which made this a straight business decision.
Just not an easy one.
I'm sure Hill will be all smiles during his intro presser with the Pacers on Monday.
