Simon: Larry Bird's Job With Pacers Safe For Now

Cliff Brunt reports that Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon confirmed that Larry Bird's job as team president was safe for the rest of the season and that he could be back next season.

Simon told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he feels Bird has done a good job since taking full control of basketball decisions after the 2007-08 season.

Not a lot of news here other than Herb Simon is alive and well. Considering Jim O'Brien's job was reportedly safe until the end of the season a few weeks ago, we know any vote of confidence is no guarantee to predict the future, but making a front office move at any point during the remainder of the season would seem pointless. Making a change this close to the trade deadline would be ridiculous, so I'm sure these comments from Simon are simply an effort to get on the record addressing Bird's status with the team until the end of the season.
