Finally, it is game time for the Indiana Pacers and this time it counts.

The Pacers host the Detroit Pistons tonight hoping to start the season strong despite a few new faces and little time to prepare. But both teams are in the same situation and as we witnessed yesterday in the opening games, there will likely be waves of up and down play throughout the game.

The Pacers early season schedule seems favorable playing Detroit twice in the first four games sandwiched around games against Toronto and Cleveland. But Detroit has been bugging me leading up to this game just because they gave the Pacers fits last year and the key players from that team return along with a better coach in Lawrence Frank.

The teams split the season series 2-2 with the home team winning all of the games, but they were all too close for comfort. The Pistons don't have high expectations outside of Detroit and these are the type of games the Pacers need to dial in and put away. No more playing to the level of every team on the schedule.

The Pistons actually match up pretty well with the Pacers depending on which how they play. It appears Frank is going with his vets to start but Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye could add length to go against Paul George and Danny Granger.

David West expects to start for the Pacers and hopefully he can neutralize second-year forward Greg Monroe who had a big game in his last visit to the Fieldhouse. This is a game that will be left up to the Pacers to determine. On opening night, effort and energy should be a given, so now it just comes down to execution.
