After missing the afternoon scrimmage on Thursday with a bruised shin, Danny Granger was back in action with Team USA on Friday.
John Schuhmann reports that Granger not only returned to the court but also turned some heads with his play in the afternoon scrimmage session.
Granger was the leading scorer in the action we saw, scoring 11 points, with nine of them coming on catch-and-shoot threes (I think he was 3-for-5 from beyon the arc in the action we saw). Mayo had five, Rose had four, Gay had three, Rondo had three, and Gordon and Love had two apiece.
It seems that this team might just live and die with the three. They attempted 13 of them in the 12 minutes of action we saw today. The last two were by bigs Love and Wallace.
Granger obviously recovered well from the shin injury that caused him to sit out yesterday’s scrimmages, and Jerry Colangelo was quick to praise him afterward.
No, Jim O'Brien did not stage a coup d'état to overthrow Mike Krzyzewski and take control of Team USA. At least I don't think he did, I'm sure that would've been reported. Regardless, if it's threes they want, Granger should be a lock to make the final 12-man roster.
Team USA concludes training camp tomorrow night with the USA Basketball Showcase game on ESPN2 at 10:00PM. I smell an open game thread!
