Bird: Pacers Need One Voice Leading

Here's a brief interview with Larry Bird on 1070 The Fan yesterday. One thing we know is that the restructuring of the franchise is underway, but we'll have to wait until the season ends before we see any true demo work.

Bird has always talked up his working relationship with Donnie Walsh, but in this little conversation he publicly admits that the Pacers need one voice making decision as the team goes forward. He also hints that a full rebuild is on the table which he hasn't said in the past.

Reading between all the lines, it appears Donnie Walsh is in control of what happens. Either he decides to stay around and fix things up or he moves on to New York or somewhere else (Milwaukee?), giving Bird the chance to sink or swim. At least they're poised to act, so things should move quickly once the season ends.
