Pacers Add a Shooter at the Point

The Pacers added Travis Diener, formerly with the Magic, as a back up point guard. Diener was a great shooter in college at Marquette where he took advantage of Dwyane Wade drawing all of the defensive attention. His pro minutes have been minimal so whether that role will change with the Pacers, we'll have to wait and see. His style of play is a stark contrast to Oriene Green who will not return. Green could handle the point and play solid D, but he flat out couldn't shoot. Assuming Diener adapts to the Harter team defensive approach, he'll be another solid shooting threat to have on the floor, when needed.

Back up point guard signings aren't exactly exciting, but it does verify that O'B is impacting personnel decisions. When in doubt, find a shooter. Unless I'm mistaken, Diener's signing puts 15 players under contract on the roster for next year. Will the Pacers keep or trade J.O.? That is the remaining question left to be answered this summer.
