Open Game Thread #12: Pacers at Hornets

New, comments

The Pacers face a tough task tonight in New Orleans, playing the Hornets on the back half of a back-to-back. The Hornets present the Pacers with an extreme challenge since they have solid perimeter scorer. As I mentioned in last night's recap, opponent's success with the outside shot has hurt the Pacers in all of their losses.

Clippers -- Sam Cassell goes off for 35 with Corey Maggette and Tim Thomas adding another 33.
Bobcats -- Gerald Wallace, Ray Felton, and Matt Carroll combine for 57.
Nuggets -- Allen Iverson, Linas Kleiza combine for 48, with Carmelo knocking down some of his 32 from outside, as well.
Celtics -- Paul Pierce pumped in 31 and Ray Allen rained in 17 second half points.
Wizards -- Caron Butler and Gilber Arenas dump 55 on the Pacers.
Raptors -- Scoring by committee, including a 4th quarter splash fest from distance, led by Jose Calderon's 15 points. T.J. Ford, Anthony Parker, Carlos Delfino and Jason Kapono added another 53 points. Wow, that was worse than I remember.
Lakers -- Kobe Bryant and Jordan Farmar combined for 50 points, but don't forget Vlad Radmanovic, Sasha Vujacic and Luke Walton kicking in another 34 points.

Yes, the Pacers style of play helps the other team get up and down the court and find open shots. But, at some point you have to find a way to defend the perimeter against a solid shooting team.

Looking at tonight's matchup after considering these numbers brings to mind one thought: Uh-Oh! The Hornets trot out distance specialists Peja Stojakovic and Morris Peterson to go along with Chris Paul. Not too hard to figure out the key to this game.

Here's Bruno's Scouting Report, which includes O'B's thoughts on the tough stretch of the schedule the Pacers are in the midst of playing through.

Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler have been working through injuries of late. Paull has missed the past two games. It appears that both are going to give it a go tonight. Bummer!

Projected Starters

Jermaine O'Neal F David West
Mike Dunleavy F Peja Stojakovic
Troy Murphy C Tyson Chandler
Danny Granger G Morris Peterson
Jamaal Tinsley G Chris Paul

Everyone is in for the Pacers except Ike. Yes, that means Marquis Daniels is going to give it a go two nights in a row. Feel free to leave your thoughts on the game in the comments.
