Pacers Set To Sign Flip Murray, Hmmm

Pacers Notebook tells us that the Pacers plan on signing guard Flip Murray today. Interstingly enough, the Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that the L.A. Clippers were going to sign Murray.

I'll stick with my man Mike Wells on this one and expect to see Flip at the Fieldhouse tomorrow. O'B is tapping into his Philly roots for this signing. Murray isn't a classic point guard but can come off the bench to add some offense.

Still, this signing is a bit confusing. On February 10th, Jamaal Tinsley said he'd be out another three weeks. Well, that would mean a return next week. Sounds like he'll be out much longer. Hmmm. Could the Pacers be working to unload Tinsley for good, maybe through a similar buyout that released Murray from Detroit? Just asking because the thought crossed my mind while trying to think of a good reason to bring in Flip Murray at this point.

Update [2008-3-1 19:52:20 by Cornrows]: Mr. Wells had the goods, Flip Murray is a Pacer.

True point
I just find it hard to believe there isn't a more true point guard out there someplace that could give us 10-15 minutes a game. Earl Calloway from the Mad Ants if nothing else.

Why do we have to keep trying to put somewhat square pegs into round holes?  That's the issue with Marquis as a back-up PG already.

Anytime we've played Detroit in the last couple of years, I was always relieved when Murray came in for a spell, figuring we had a chance to regain a few points.

I hope he comes in here and does a bang-up job, but I'd think there were better bets out there.

I'm with you
I'd rather just let this season run its course with what we have now. This really isn't going to help my man Stephen Graham, unless Flip is considered a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency player.

Ronald Murray
I think he fits that run-n-gun thing you guys are doing there in Indy.  Flip is a gunner.  He didn't work here because he's too freelance with his.  Too much dribbling, too much one-on-one.  He's one of those guys that runs hot and cold.  I definitely wouldn't lump him in with the true PG's of the world as he had a hard time getting guys involved when he was here, instead electing to get his, which he could, just not at the benefit of the team.

He's very talented and can contribute in the right scheme, which just wasn't here in Detroit.  He did an adequate job filling in a few times when Chauncey went down, and when he wasn't playing he was very professional about it.  Really stand up.

I just wish since there was said to be Boston, the Clipper, and now you guys interested in his service that we could have at least traded him for picks rather than buying him out.

We'll see where he fits in
They guy can score, no question. Scoring is not really a major problem right now, though. With other suitors involved, I hope the Pacers don't get crazy and sign him to a two-year deal at this point.
