Open Game Thread #14: Pacers vs. Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Fieldhouse this afternoon having won two games in a row, just like the Pacers. Obviously, LeBron James makes the Cavs go which was verified by the 82 points he combined to score in both wins. So, it's the Pacers' team ball against LeBron. King James will get his, but I like the Pacers' chances.

Mike Wells discusses Danny Granger's solid play which I mentioned in my last game report. Nice to see Jermaine O'Neal and Larry Joe Legend are driving Danny to remain consistent and find ways to improve. LJL wants Danny to lose the tunnel vision when he's dribbling the ball, but that will require an improved handle. As long as his game keeps progressing from this point forward, we'll all be happy.

Here is Bruno's Scouting Report focusing on the Pacers' chance to get back to .500 against a Central Division rival. J.O. is listed as day-to-day and on Friday O'B thought J.O. would play. Mike Wells reports that J.O. will not play today. Hopefully he'll shut it down until he's really ready to go. I don't think he's helping himself or the team by playing at 80% or less.

Projected Starters

PACERS pos. CAVALIERS
Troy Murphy F Dwight Gooden
Danny Granger F LeBron James
Jeff Foster C Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Mike Dunleavy G Sasha Pavlovic
Jamaal Tinsley G Daniel Gibson

Like the pace of the game so far
Keep big Ziggy running back and forth all day.

Pacers up 16-13 4:58 left in 1st.

Pace slowed down
but Pacers finish first quarter strong, up 25-21.

Cavs put run on Pacers
Get back to basics, defend and hit the glass. Cavs starting to hit 3-balls in bunches (7 of 9). This is starting to feel familiar.

Cavs up 52-40.

Boyle mentions Cavs hitting threes like layups.

54-46 at half
Tins kept Pacers within striking distance to end the half. Need someone besides Tins to step up on offense. LeBron is headed for another triple-double.

71-64
4 minutes to go in third. Pacers have lost the pace, haven't played well, but they're hanging in.

Thanks O'B

Game on
Pacer finish third quarter with 19-4 run by Pacers, up at 75-73. Marquis Daniels and David Harrison were huge!

LeBron missed much of the run tending to a minor injury. He's expected to return.

83-82
Pacers up with 8:45 to go. Hate these tight games when the other team has a guy that can go down the stretch and score or get a foul call at will.

88-86
Cavs up. Daniel Gibson fouled out, threw something in the crowd and was T'd up. Thanks, Boobie!

Tight game
Pacers were up 5 (99-94) but can't shake Cavs as they hit ANOTHER 3-ball. Pacers up 99-97 with 2:47 left. Hopefully the trend that sees teams that hit more 3-balls win doesn't hold true.

Cavs have advantage in 3-balls, 11 to 5.

Bad turnover by Danny
Can't have your go-to-guy dribble the ball off his foot when the Cavs are using LeBron in the same role.

Cavs make plays
Pacers make mistakes. This is a tough one to lose. Solid effort just not enough smart plays down the stretch. The game was there for the taking.

Final: Cavs 111, Pacers 106
