It will take me a long time to figure out how I feel about this Pacers season. So many highs, then so many lows. I loved the highs. In January, I was convinced they were winning the title (something I don't do lightly), and I was ready to declare this my favorite team of all time. The amoeba-like defense, Paul George's Mega-Man ability to add skills, Hibbert's verticality, the long arms of Hill, David West being a bad man, Lance's ineffable Lance-iness.
The lows were low enough for me to question why I care so much. I'm a die-hard fan, but there were times when this team was tough to watch. Even though they lost to a really good Heat team, and, despite the blowout, were within a few Game 2 minutes of protecting homecourt and taking the series to Game 7, it's not even really about the opponent, because it rarely felt they were operating at their peak.
This was the first time in four years that they didn't advance farther than they did in the previous year. They're still a young team with hopefully some growth ahead of them. I hope they keep the core together, and add to it, but for the first time in four years, I'm not sure they will.
The only word that I'm sure describes the 2013-14 Pacers is "entertaining." Thanks for an entertaining season, Pacers.
