The Pacers return to the house of horrors that is Philips Arena on Thursday night for the first of two games in the next three days that will likely determine if they can advance to the next round of the playoffs.
Frank Vogel may not be coaching for his job but he will be desperately coaching for a W in Atlanta. After Vogel found a nice combo on Tuesday night with C.J. Watson and George Hill playing together, the Pacers coach will have to navigate any counters the Hawks try to apply. While Luis Scola was big in the last game, he also admitted getting essentially the same shots in Game 2 that he missed in Game 1. Hopefully the rainbow setter has a pot of gold at the end again for the blue and gold.
Honestly, it is hard to recall a time when the range of expectations for the Pacers' performance was any greater than it is heading into Game 3. The road has been such a buzz kill since the All-Star break and since winning a regular season game in 2006, the Pacers are 2-14 in Atlanta. On the plus side, they are 2-1 in their last three games at Philips Arena including the series clincher in Game 6 last year. That combined with the Hawks appearing to lose their comfortable confidence in Game 2 should give the Pacers the opportunity to go on the road and get it done.
Can they seize the opportunity?
