Consider it a high-earner vacation bonus.
The Pacers started the season 33-7 which allowed them to stumble down the stretch of the regular season and still secure the top seed in the East before the regular season ends against the Magic in Orlando on Wednesday night.
With no need to expend any more mental and physical energy on the regular season, Frank Vogel will manage his starters' minutes in Orlando (via Pacers.com) with the first round of the playoffs in mind.
"We're going to rest David, Lance and Paul George and we're going to let George and Roy get some work in the game, they'll start but won't play the whole game," Vogel said after the team's practice on Tuesday.
The idea is to give Hibbert and Hill some additional touches before shutting them down as the pair prepares for a challenging first-round matchup against the Hawks.
Also, according to 1070 The Fan's Conrad Brunner, Vogel will rest reserve point guard C.J. Watson who recently returned to action after dealing with hamstring and elbow problems. Watson showed he was ready for the playoffs with his big game against the Thunder on Sunday so giving him a few more days off is a great move.
As we've seen the past three years, the playoffs are a completely different beast than the regular season. If nothing else, the Pacers should be fresh and ready to attack the challenge in front of them when the playoffs tip off this weekend.
