Pacers final score: Heat pummel Pacers in second half to win 98-86

USA TODAY Sports

A disastrous third quarter helped wrap up a win for the Heat. LeBron James had 36 to lead Miami to the win. Paul George had 22 and David West had 18, but turnovers and fast break defense killed the Pacers in the third quarter.

The Indiana Pacers looked sharp early, with ball movement and assists allowing the Pacers to shoot well over 50% and hold a 25-23 first quarter lead. Even though the second quarter, Indiana was in great shape against the Miami Heat, trailing just three thanks to a sizable free throw difference and Indiana turnovers. But things went south quick in the third quarter, with the Heat using a 16-0 run to open the quarter to make it a blowout.

The Pacers would trim it to nine early in the fourth, but a quick 5-0 run by the Heat kept the game in double figures. The decline began with Pacers turnovers leading to fast break Miami points. The Pacers had 16 turnovers, leading to 20 points, many of them coming in transition, scoring 18 fast break points. Paul George led five Pacers in double figures with 22. David West fouled out, but had 18 and 8 rebounds. LeBron James had 36 to lead Miami to the win.

The Heat move back into first place by 0.5 a game as the Pacers slip to the second seed. With a Washington win and Charlotte loss, the Pacers are set to face the Bobcats as the regular season continues to wind down.
