The Indiana Pacers finished 2013 with a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers to leave them on top of the NBA world. Heading into their game at the Toronto Raptors tonight, the Pacers are 25-5 which is the best record in the league. Along with the best overall record the Pacers have some other impressive numbers.
- 18-3 record among conference teams is the best in the Eastern Conference.
- 15-1 record at Bankers Life Fieldhouse is the best home record in the NBA.
- 10-4 road record is the best in the Eastern Conference and fourth best in the league.
For the 2013 calendar year, the Pacers are 56-24 which only the 1969 ABA Pacers eclipsed (56-20), as Mark Montieth noted.
But one of those 24 losses still looms large among Frank Vogel and his team when they consider their success in 2013 and look ahead to 2014. When asked if he was sorry to see 2013 come to an end, Vogel chuckled and stated a view held throughout the locker room.
"Not when I look forward to what 2014 should bring," Vogel responded. "It's going to be a good year for us."
Let's face it, only Vogel and his team believed they could achieve the level of success they did in 2013. So maybe we should all be happy 2013 is over and get excited for what 2014 should bring. Paul George stated his expectations for the new year simply, when asked how 2014 could top this past year.
"Oh, you know...championship."
