ESPN Magazine’s "The Franchise Issue" will officially hit newsstands on September 20th. In the issue, ESPN conducts its 11th annual ultimate ranking of the best franchises in all of professional sports. According to ESPN, each team’s ranking is based upon the following criteria:

- Fan Relations: Openness and consideration toward fans by players, coaches, and management

- "Bang for the Buck": Wins during the past three years (regular season plus postseason) per revenues directly from fans, adjusted for league schedule

- Players: Effort on the field (court) and likeability of it

- Ownership: Honesty and loyalty to core players and local community

- Title Track: Championship already won or expected in the lifetime of current fans

- Coaching: Strength of on-field (court) leadership

- Affordability: Price of tickets, parking, and concessions

- Stadium Experience: Quality of arena and game-day promotions as well as friendliness and environment

Early release of the rankings reveals that the Pacers ranked 3rd amongst all 122 professional sports franchises. The NBA had four of the five top ranked franchises. The Memphis Grizzlies topped the Ultimate Standings followed by the Spurs, Pacers, and Thunder. (Actual scores for each aforementioned category have not yet been officially released)

These rankings reveal what so many Pacers fans already know – the Pacers are one of the best franchises in the league. It is no wonder that the Indianapolis franchise ranked so high in the standings when it boasts a team that is currently so likable and easy to get behind. They have young, superstar caliber talent. They pass the team chemistry test with flying colors. They have a coach who has worked his way up the ranks from being a video coordinator. They have players who voluntarily get involved in the community and give back to the fans by creating Area 55 and the G2 Zone at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. They have a front office that has built a championship caliber squad while staying below the luxury tax line. They offer game day specials for fans and single game ticket specials such as Family Night, College Night, and Two for Tuesday. And beyond all of this, they have gotten one step closer to winning a championship each of the last three seasons.

What is not to like? What do you think makes the Pacers one of the best franchises in all of professional sports?
