Pacers add Ron Howard and Darnell Jackson for training camp

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

With training camp coming into view, the Pacers added a pair of players with D-League experience to their training camp roster.

The Indiana Pacers announced the signing of Ron Howard and Darnell Jackson to free agent contracts on Tuesday. The two D-League veterans will be part of the training camp roster and presumably have a shot at one of the open spots that remains on the Pacers regular season roster.

Howard, no not Richie Cunningham nor the former NFL tight end, is a hoops Crash Davis, having spent the past six years playing in the D-League, as well as Mexico. Howard has been a productive player for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on the floor (19.1 points, 4.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds per game) and off, winning the Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award last season.

Jackson was a second round pick in the 2008 NBA draft after winning a National Championship at Kansas. While he's spent the bulk of his career in the D-Leauge, the power forward has played in 138 NBA games for Cleveland, Milwaukee and Sacramento.

Howard and Jackson join Rasual Butler as training camp invitees looking for a regular-season roster spot. The Pacers currently have two available roster spots but have like to keep at least one spot open during the season to remain flexible should the need arise to make a personnel move.
