Chris Copeland has knee scoped, expects to be ready for Pacers training camp

Andy Lyons

Pacers forward had surgery on his left knee with plans to rehab and return in time to join his new team for preseason work.

Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland will be in recovery mode for six to eight weeks after successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, according to the team.

The Indiana Pacers announced Friday that forward Chris Copeland underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to remove a loose body. The surgery was performed Friday morning at the Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital. Recovery time is estimated at six to eight weeks and Copeland is expected to be ready for the start of the 2013 training camp.

Oh, hi. Don't mind this little knee surgery (really, more of a procedure) over here in the corner. Not exactly the best initial post-signing headline for a new player, but I will assume this procedure was a known need prior to the Pacers signing Copeland.

Honestly, I'm not concerned with this hampering Copeland's season, especially since the Pacers need him ready to sit behind the arc and knock down shots as opposed to make high-flying plays around the rim. But excuse me if I'm a bit hesitant to accept the Pacers downplaying the severity of any knee injuries or recovery timelines.

So who will be ready to go full throttle first, Copeland or Danny Granger? Gentlemen, start your knee cartilage!
