As posted in Hoops, the PF free agents of note are as follows
Is there anyone in there that might fill a slot? Comments like we need a team crazy, an enforcer, a defensive force. All make sense to me, but will the FO spend the last roster spot? And if so, who would make our team better? I think we could leave off Jamison, we already have a stretch four in Cope. DJ does not fit the description, and I don't know enough about Wright to post an opinion, and ditto that for Thomas, although given his contract he must have been highly thought of at one time. Odom, Johnson,Martin, and Blair could all fit, although I don't know about chemistry between Martin and West. Odom and Martin would have to be convinced of the winning it all possibility, and Blair and Johnson are looking to stay in the league, IMHO I would take any of those four and take my chances on Lance as the third option as back up point. Pendergraf would have been ok, but the Pacers needed to sign up for two years. Carl Landry would have been wonderful, but getting him on the cheap was missed last year.
The FO appears committed to going with what we got, barring a trade, and that means going into the season thin at the four. The second unit does not look bad if Danny is playing, if he isn't, that leaves scoring up to CJ, Cope, OJ, and Hill. Two second year players, a rookie, and CJ. Green and Sloan are floating around out there somewhere, and unless Green awakens, are little help. There is a possibility of a Sloan/.Watson combo with CJ at the two, but that doesn't sound too fearsome. Ian and Plum at the 5 spot. The major concern besides Danny, is the health of West, can he stay on the court as much as needed? If not, where is our smashmouth going to come from?
We all held our breath last year waiting on Danny, and until the emergence of PG, Hibbert getting back on track, and a west coast trip featuring Tyler, nary a good word could be found for our front office. They held their cards waiting on Danny, and it appears, still holding. I would like to see something creative happen, but getting something for nothing and compromising a deadline deal doing it does not appear to be in the plans. And we still need another coach.
