We will not have a ton of cap space this summer (unless we get rid of Danny, or lose out on David West) so we gots 2 be smart with our money. Our biggest hole is the entire bench, and with the great DJ on the way out, we got to find a backup PG for lil' cash. Here are some of my fav choices, what are yours?
Patty Mills, SA Spurs- Patty does have a club option for next year, but with Tony Parker keeping a solid grip on the starting reigns, and with Nando De Colo, Gary Neal, and Cory Joseph on the bench behind him, it is plausible that Patty is given the boot. I love Patty's speed and his ability to score in short bursts when given some time. He is also only 24 years old and has some potential left. He was payed a little over 1 mill this past season, and I think we could get him for 1.5-2.5 million if he hit the open market.
Beno Udrih, Orl Magic- Beno has seen his playing time decrease from his Sac town days, and is in line for a pay decrease from his 7 mill earned this year. The guy doesn't have much of a perimeter shot, but he has proven he can score and could be a solid piece off the bench. It would also be nice to have another established vet on the team (maybe he has some deep life lessons from his Spurs days). I'd value him at 3-3.5 million.
Chauncey Billups, LA Clippers- Chauncey has struggled with getting back from injuries he suffered with the Clippers, but he is definitely a player any contender would love to have on the the team (for the right price). Chauncey is looking for a team with a real shot to win an NBA championship, and would take a pay cut to join a contender. Chauncey is older, but is still a solid option off the bench and can help with the Pacer's poor three point shooting. Chauncey has shown interest in joining the Heat, but perhaps we could sway him by showing him how much we resemble his old Pistons team. I'd love to get Chauncey at around 3.5-4 million.
Are there any other bargain bin point guards you guys have your eyes on? Here's hoping for a action packed and successful free agency period.
